CHN Helping Hands for Cancer 5k: Bittersweet for Local Cancer Survivor

For Kathy Beulen, the upcoming Community Health Network Helping Hands for Cancer 5k Run/Walk brings up many memories—some happy, some sad. It was just 14 months ago that the wife and mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 49. Her first symptoms appeared in February 2012, and after a mammogram, ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy she was diagnosed with DCIS (ducal carcinoma insitu). That diagnosis was followed by the news that she had inflammatory breast cancer which is a rare and fast spreading variety. What transpired next was a whirlwind of tests and treatments--a PET scan, placement of a port in her chest and just two days later, chemotherapy treatments began.

CHN Helping Hands Fund Receives Donation from Clay Lamberton Elementary

On the eve of their Helping Hands for Cancer 5k Run/Walk, Community Health Network received an unexpected donation for the cause from the students at Berlin’s Clay Lamberton Elementary School. The $1000 check came from the school’s Elves R Us program, an annual event at Clay in which fifth grade students set up a holiday store for students to shop for their families. The store is stocked with items donated and purchased from local businesses and all proceeds from the sale are then given to local charities.

It is estimated that nearly one-third of the people with diabetes do not know that they have the disease. In addition, an estimated 79 million adults are estimated to have pre-diabetes, placing them at increased risk for developing the disease.

CHN Diabetes Support Group - Fatty Liver Disease

The Community Health Network (CHN) Diabetes Support Group will be meeting on Thursday May 9th from 4:00-5:00pm and on Friday May 10th from 1:00-2:00pm. The support group takes place in the Lower Level MOB Conference Room at Berlin Memorial Hospital.
